Before We Were Roofers, We Were Community People
It’s funny sometimes how businesses start.
People assume companies begin with giant plans, investors, polished branding, and some perfectly mapped-out five-year vision. But honestly? ODD Roofing started a lot simpler than that.
It started with people.
Long before ODD Roofing officially launched, years in the roofing industry taught us something important: roofs matter, but community matters more.
And somewhere along the way, we realized what we really wanted wasn’t just to build roofs.
We wanted to build relationships.
We wanted conversations.
We wanted to be surrounded by people who were dreaming, creating, risking, building, failing, growing, and trying again.
That’s actually why our very first office space back in 2023 wasn’t some giant warehouse or flashy commercial building.
It was a coworking office.
Back then, we were part of a space at 711 Main Street in downtown North Wilkesboro called Masthead Coworking. And honestly, that place shaped a lot of how we think today.
Because every single day, you were surrounded by people building something from scratch.
Not huge corporations.
Not million-dollar startups.
Just real people with ideas.
People trying to figure things out.
People betting on themselves.
People turning hobbies into businesses.
And we got to watch it happen in real time.
We watched groups like WYLD go from a small shared workspace with a few volunteers and a bunch of high energy teens to now launching countless initiatives, employing so many local people, and now having a food truck, educational programs, and a wonderfully big office space in downtown N. Wilkesboro.
Brewer Logan take an idea and turn it into a huge business with Verenovo and seeing him go full time and employe others is an absolute inspiration.
We watched Berry Mitchell grow his idea from a side project into Mitchell Moving Co. even employing people right here in Wilkes County.
We watched Victoria Brooks launch High Country Estate Law and now works for the city of North Wilkesboro as well as has a thriving business right off main street in downtown North Wilkesboro.
We watched the incredible team behind We Built begin creating meaningful impact through nonprofit work, and as they continue to grow, we celebrate them.
And honestly, there are countless others too many to name.
That season reminded us that entrepreneurship is one of the bravest things a person can do.
It’s terrifying.
It’s exhausting.
It’s exciting.
It’s deeply personal.
And being around that kind of energy changes you.
Even after transitioning out of that office space, we kept chasing that same sense of community. Through groups like the Wilkes Entrepreneur Network, Chamber of Commerce in Boone, Elkin, and Wilkes, and even just conversations over coffee with our community we knew that supporting our community is the baseline of how we wanted to grow and thats how we got to where we are today.
Sometimes we got to celebrate launches.
Sometimes we got to encourage people through failures.
Sometimes we simply got to sit with somebody trying to figure out their next step.
But all of it mattered.
So when ODD Roofing entered this new season and found its new home at the historic building at 105 Wilkesboro Boulevard, we knew immediately we didn’t want it to just become “an office.”
We wanted it to stay alive.
That building means something to people.
People have memories there.
Stories there.
History there.
And for us, that felt important.
Because at our core, ODD Roofing has never really been about staying inside the lines of what a roofing company is “supposed” to be.
We want this space to become a place where people gather.
Where entrepreneurs connect.
Where ideas are shared.
Where small businesses are celebrated.
Where events happen.
Where community exists naturally.
Yes, we roof houses.
But before we are roofers, we are community members.
We are people deeply inspired by the creativity, resilience, weird ideas, side hustles, small businesses, nonprofits, artists, builders, dreamers, and entrepreneurs around us.
And honestly, we hope this building becomes a reflection of that.
So as this journey continues, we’re excited to open the doors wider.
To host events.
To showcase local entrepreneurs.
To collaborate with old friends.
To meet new ones.
And to continue building something that feels bigger than business.
Because at the end of the day, the best things we’ve built haven’t been roofs.
They’ve been relationships.
